Extracurricular Opportunities

At Kings’ School Al Barsha, we offer an extensive enrichment programme of extracurricular opportunities for children from FS1 through to Year 13. These take place before, during, and after school on a weekly basis and provide opportunities for students to discover new talents and abilities, to nurture existing passions, and to develop their social skills. Activities change termly in line with student interests and sporting seasons, and cover everything from academics and the arts to sports and cultural opportunities.

Reading Club

A book is a gift that you can open again and again. Reading is an invaluable opportunity to escape from reality and be transported to another world, seen through the eyes of another character. It allows the chance to become immersed in a story and exposed to different cultures, landscapes, and perspectives.

In this club, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of different texts from many inspiring authors. Some you may have already heard of. Others will be exciting new discoveries. Whatever the text, you will be able to share your thoughts on what you have read whilst comparing your opinions with others.

Quran

Quran is the book of wisdom and knowledge, whoever recites it finds peace and tranquillity of heart in it. Prophet Muhammad said, ‘The best among you are those who learn Quran and teach it’

We are keen for our students to learn and recite Quran in the best possible way and to do so, the primary Islamic department has been working passionately to help the students to recite and memorise the Quran through our Quran Club for many years.

These clubs take place every week and students are taught to memorise the surahs from the holy Quran with correct pronunciation (Tajweed rules) according to the level of the students. As well as recitation, students also enjoy sharing the stories from the holy Quran and exploring the morals to apply in their daily lives. The main focus is to make the students familiar with the language and spirit of the holy Quran.

Happy Singers

The Happy Singers Club offers Year 1 and 2 students the opportunity to perform songs which are appropriate to their age and ability. The over all aim is that the children have fun and develop confidence through taking part in performance with others. There is simple direction to improve singing such as when to breath and holding the vowels, but this does not get in the way of enjoying a good sing. There will be concerts out of school hours in which children will want to take part and where parents can enjoy the fun. Examples of the songs we sing are “ When I Grow Up”, from Matilda, “Sing a Rainbow” by Arthur Hamilton and “ A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman. Singing is proven to be a boost to good health and well-being. It offers a very positive school experience and will include the children mixing with others from other classes in their year group. The Happy Choir is included in all major performance events in the primary music department.
