Engineering Society

The Engineering Society allows like-minded students who are considering pursuing a career in engineering to come together and develop a greater understanding of this field. You will research, present, debate, take part in and lead competitions, liaising with industry professionals. You will be presented with competitions and engineering challenges that help expand your problem-solving skills, which in turn will hopefully fuel a passion for engineering.

The average person is predicted to change their career three times in their life, and being well-informed about the different fields such as Chemical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, and more, that engineering encompasses; will allow you to make more well-informed decisions in the future. Due to how vast the scope of engineering is, by partaking in the Society you will accumulate a comprehensive view of each field prior to having to make important decisions such as choosing A-level subjects and even professions later on in life.

In my time at Engineering Society we've had a presentation on aeronautical engineering, which was chosen by member vote. This gave me a detailed look into the process of not only working as an Aerospace Engineer, but also studying to get there. As this is an area I am interested in, it was very beneficial in confirming my interest in this field. Along with this I was introduced to a few MOOCs relating to Aerospace as well, which was very helpful.

We have engineering society sessions where we discuss several aspects in engineering and talk about current events and breakthroughs. We have been introduced to many new resources like MOOCs and engineering workshops. With this information, I had registered for an aerospace course from MIT.

I have really enjoyed the session where we covered Aerospace Engineering. This is a result of my passion for aerospace engineering being a big part of my life, as I am wanting to take it up as a career. The presentation was especially beneficial for me as I gained insight to courses that I could pursue in university in order to make aerospace engineering my future career.
